Profile

Dr Benno Guenther is a finance and behavioural-science academic-practitioner whose work sits at the intersection of financial markets, risk, decision-making and environmental markets.

He is a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town, and Founder & Director of Blue Guardian Consulting. He holds a PhD and MSc in Behavioural Science from the LSE and a Master’s in Mathematical Finance from the University of Konstanz.

Before moving into academia and consulting, Benno spent more than 15 years working in financial markets, including senior roles at J.P. Morgan and other international financial institutions. His experience spans derivatives, structured products, options trading, valuation, risk management and financing.

His academic research focuses particularly on risk-taking and behavioural decision-making under uncertainty, including research on the disposition effect and behavioural measures of risk-taking.

Benno is an experienced lecturer and speaker, having taught finance, banking, derivatives, behavioural science and related subjects at LSE, the University of Cape Town and EGADE Business School. He has also spoken to professional and executive audiences. His speaking style combines academic evidence with practical experience, making complex financial and behavioural concepts accessible and relevant to senior executives, boards, investors and broader business audiences.
