Profile

Judith Suissa is trained as a philosopher and did her PhD at the Institute of Education (now UCL Institute of Education) in philosophy of education.

Her PhD research was a philosophical exploration of anarchist education and practice. She has published a book and several chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles on the history and philosophy of radical, anarchist, and libertarian education.

Drawing together work from political philosophy, moral philosophy, philosophy of education and the history of educational ideas, her scholarship and teaching, during over twenty years at UCL, explored the intersection of political and educational values, with a particular emphasis on the role of the state in education, parents' and children's rights, and liberal educational ideals. A related strand of her work developed a philosophical critique of parenting culture and a philosophical account of parent-child relationships.

More recently, she has written about academic freedom. She is an experienced public speaker with over twenty years' experience of lecturing and delivering keynotes to academic audiences, educational practitioners, policymakers and the general public on a range of issues related to the above fields of expertise.
